Last night I was talking to Mike about this blog. I knew it had been a while since I posted something new, but when I looked today I was surprised to see it's actually been over 2 weeks. Geesh! I haven't stopped trying stuff, I have simply failed to post anything. I've tried a couple new recipes and also a 5 minute t-shirt to vest attempt that left me less than impressed. I actually threw it away if that tells you anything. I have tons of things pinned on Pinterest, I've printed many a recipes and they're filed away in a pretty green folder in our kitchen drawer, and I've started a list of books I want to read. But anyone who knows me knows I get bored fairly quickly. Like, I'm already bored typing this post (he he) ... SO!
What I want to try next is ask you, my readers, to suggest things for me to try. I'd prefer something that you personally have NOT tried yet and have, perhaps, been meaning to. I'll be your guinea pig, sure! Some examples: craft projects, recipes, DIY home improvements, nail polishing techniques, yoga poses... or whatever :)Email me or leave a comment and tell me what you want to see me try next.I won't leave this post completely void of inspiration. A while ago I was at a friend's house and saw this nifty hair dryer/flat iron holder in her bathroom. It was constructed by her dad fairly easily. All he used was some PVC pipes and some screws to secure it to the wall. I think it's brilliant!

ReplyDeleteYeah you can paint pvc. It's good to sand it with some light sand paper so that the pipe isn't shiny to give the paint something to hold onto.

DeleteIs a PVC pipe fire/heat resistant? Just wanted to know if you can use it if your curling iron/straightner is still hot?

ReplyDeleteI suppose you can use any size you prefer. This wasn't my project (a friend's dad did it for her) so I don't know specifics.
DeleteYou would need to measure your hair dryer and get one the it would fit in it with enough room.

DeleteI absolutely am doing this! We have no counter space in our bathroom, and with 2 women in the house, the straightener is always out! I have been thinking we need somewhere to keep it so we can access it more easily. Thanks for the neat idea!

ReplyDeleteI have seen DIY cake/dessert platters where you take a candle stick (or something similar) and stick it to the bottom of a big plate and viola, you have a cake stand. I've not tried this yet, but would love to do so! Have you tried this yet? I'd love to see your end result if you have. :-) Have a fabulous day!

Any idea what kind of joint is this called? I can't find it at Lowes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with plumbing supplies at all. And since this wasn't my project, I don't know. I can check, but my guess is you could show this picture to an employee at Lowe's or Home Depot and they could direct you where to find it.
DeleteMy boyfriend helped me find one and called it a "PVC Y-joint". I found it at Menard's for four dollars. Mine is 3x3x2 which is great, because the larger opening can be used for the blowdryer and the smaller opening can be used for the straightener. I love this project. I'm doing it tonight :)
Deletei bought this at lowes today...it was in the plumbing section they had one heavier variety, we initially picked up that one, then found the lighter one on the way out...now i just have to figure out how to hang it on the wall.

DeleteThe fitting that you are looking for is a "Schedule 40 WYE". They come in sizes 1", 2", 3", & 4". If you want to get real creative purchase a plug to fit into the bottom and use it for toothbrushes or hair brushes. The plug would be removeable and could be cleaned as necessary.

ReplyDeleteAnother great way to attach to the wall would be to use the 3M velcro, a couple pieces on the wall and a couple pieces on the PVC part. Then you can take it off and not damage the wall! Your landlord will appreciate it, and the velcro is plenty strong enough to hold the weight.

DeleteI found the pipe fitting at our local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store for $3. It works perfectly. I put my hot iron in it and so far no melting. Thanks for a great idea!!
